Users can personalize their view of the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client, and administrators can customize the view for users. The following levels of personalization and customization are described from least to greatest scope.
-
Users can personalize the size and position of pages, columns, and other UI elements. They can also specify default actions for what the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client does when Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server directs an Automation object to run on the client computer, or when the server sends a file to open or save on the client computer. These settings affect only the current user on the current computer and are stored from one Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client session to the next. Users can go to the Reset User-Specified Settings page to reset any or all of these settings.
Note Customizations that you make to the Chart window are not stored from one Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client session to the next. -
Users can customize pages, customize the navigation pane, or copy department links to their Role Centers. Such actions are still part of personalization because they only affect the current user. However, these personalizations are stored in the Microsoft Dynamics NAV database and are available to the user on any computer in the company where the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client is installed. See Personalize the User Interface for details.
-
Administrators can customize the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client for all users of a particular profile. These customizations are equivalent to the personalizations that individual users can perform as described in the second bullet. To customize the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client for all profile users, the administrator must start the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client in configuration mode. For details on how to do this, see How to: Open the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows Client in Configuration Mode.
The following table describes some key administrator tasks and pages that are relevant for configuring user interfaces.
